Senior Ecologist Hannah Bilston will be appearing on the BBC’s Countryfile programme (episode airing on Sunday 1st June at 7pm). She will be talking about the bat monitoring she undertakes at Finemere Wood in Buckinghamshire.
Hannah was interviewed by presenter Ellie Harrison about the experimental work on bat box selection that she and Mathew Dodds (from the North Bucks Bat Group) originally set up for her Masters research project. The piece also includes some footage of bat survey work, including: using an endoscope to observe a roost of Bechstein’s bats which have been radio-tracked to a tree roost within the wood; and a mist netting session during which two Bechstein’s bats and three brown long-eared bats were caught. These bats were fitted with transmitters to enable the group to find more tree roosts within the wood. All the work was conducted under licence.
Please get in contact with Hannah should you wish for further information regarding the ongoing research at Finemere.
