BSG Ecology was established in 1997 as an independent ecological consultancy. We now employ nearly forty people in five offices across the UK.
We have a proven record of successfully tackling complex ecological issues on a very wide range of projects for clients across all market sectors. Scientific rigour, pragmatism, clarity of thought, commercial awareness and positive professional relationships underpin our approach to resolving clients’ ecological challenges.
We believe that relevant and effective consultancy advice needs to have wildlife legislation and policy as its basis. This allows clients to clearly understand the merits of their options, and to better assess their next steps.
Across the private and public sectors we have a portfolio of well over 4,000 projects. These range from the largest new developments, to significant government-sponsored biodiversity research, to local authority support contracts, to work for private clients on bats and other protected species.
We invest in our own research to ensure the best possible advice to our clients. Over the last few years we have undertaken or sponsored research in a number of high profile areas. Examples include: evaluating the operational characteristics of different bat detection equipment; monitoring invertebrate colonisation of a brown roof in London; a review of planning inspectors’ decisions relating to biodiversity; and examining disturbance effects from wind farm operation on farmland birds. By identifying the most topical issues affecting the industry and investing time and money in this way, we greatly strengthen the basis of our advice.
BSG Ecology is committed to providing the highest quality of work. All ecological personnel are bound by the code of professional conduct of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM). Over and above this, we operate our own internal technical standards, invest heavily in training, and operate rigorous review procedures to ensure the continued quality of our service.
