Anna has worked as a professional ecologist since 1996 and joined BSG Ecology in 2007.
Anna’s work includes site management plans, BREEAM assessments, ecological assessments for renewables developments, including wind farms and solar arrays, and bat surveys of listed buildings to inform historical conservation work. Anna has also worked on behalf of local authorities in England and Wales undertaking landscape scale habitat survey to inform the local planning process. This work has included a survey of existing Local Wildlife Sites to assess whether they meet the published selection criteria, and (for a different authority) a survey of land allocations within a developing Local Plan to assess and identify new LWS designations.
Anna has surveyed habitats extensively throughout her career. She has carried out Phase 1 Habitat Surveys ranging from large tracts of the North Pennines to narrow pipeline corridors. National Vegetation Classification surveys have included woodland, grasslands and moorlands. She has undertaken various specialised botanical surveys, for example surveying castle walls for rare ferns and farmland for rare arable weeds, and drawing up a grassland species list for a National Park in Croatia. She also has considerable experience of monitoring programmes (having been involved in Common Standards Monitoring and fixed quadrat assessments for a variety of Defra-funded projects), habitat management, and a range of protected species surveys. She holds conservation licences for bats in both England and Wales.
Prior to joining BSG Anna worked as a Conservation Officer for Natural England, undertook botanical monitoring of agri-environment schemes for ADAS, and managed the botanical fieldwork programme for the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research. Anna has a particular interest in grassland habitats and is a member of the Botanical Society of the British Isles (BSBI).
