Karen has worked in nature conservation since 2002 and as an ecological consultant since 2004.
Since joining BSG Ecology in 2006, Karen has worked on a diverse range of projects from large-scale housing developments, quarries and aggregate industries to single turbine sites and barn conversions. Her role includes ecological survey and co-ordination, project management and delivery, the provision of ecological advice in the context of current planning policy and wildlife legislation, the preparation of ecological chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments, protected species licensing and mitigation design and implementation.
Karen is an experienced all round field ecologist with strong protected species survey skills for mammals, reptiles and amphibians. She has a particular interest and expertise in survey and assessment in relation to bats. She routinely undertakes bat surveys and assessments, prepares European Protected Species Licences in relation to residential and commercial development and designs and implements mitigation for bats in accordance with best practice guidelines. She holds Natural England survey licences for bats and great crested newt.
Prior to joining BSG Ecology, Karen worked for a large multi-disciplinary consultancy providing ecological advice to public and private sector clients in relation to infrastructure projects such as road schemes, sewage pipelines and household waste recycling sites. Karen is an active member of the North Bucks Bat Group and supports the Bat Conservation Trust through contributing to their National Bat Monitoring Programme.
