Katy joined BSG Ecology in 2001. She has experience in a wide range of consultancy work including the production of Ecological Impact Assessments and the implementation of great crested newt translocation and bat mitigation projects. She undertakes surveys for a range of protected species including bats, great crested newt, reptiles, water vole and otter, holds scientific survey licences for bats and great crested newt, and is an accomplished project manager.
Katy is experienced in securing and implementing Natural England Bat Mitigation Licences for a range of clients including private developers and local authorities. She has designed and helped deliver bespoke mitigation for projects including barn conversions, and those requiring work within Listed Buildings or building demolition. She has particular experience in carrying out bat surveys and providing advice in relation to bats and churches in the East Midlands.
Since 2004 Katy has delivered ecological advice on planning and development control matters under several contracts to Derbyshire Wildlife Trust in relation to protected species, Local Wildlife Sites and nature conservation policy. This has included the appraisal of planning applications using her knowledge of best-practice survey guidance, legislation and planning guidance.
Prior to joining BSG Ecology, Katy completed a 6-month European Voluntary Service scheme in Sicily and was an Environmental Surveyor for 6 months, undertaking botanical surveys of trunk roads in Derbyshire.
