Stephen Foot

Stephen has worked as a professional ecologist since 2005 and joined BSG Ecology in 2010.

Stephen is an ‘all round’ ecologist who has particular expertise in habitat and protected species survey and is an effective project manager and survey co-ordinator. Stephen has worked on projects ranging from small scale wind turbine and single property housing developments to major residential and infrastructure projects, leading and   co-ordinating the delivery of ecology surveys and services.

Stephen has a thorough understanding of current planning policy and guidance, wildlife legislation and assessment methodologies and has experience of undertaking Ecological Impact Assessment, the preparation of licensed and non-licensed method statements for species and habitats, biodiversity management/ enhancement plans and BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes Assessments. He is an experienced and pragmatic Ecological Clerk of Works, and regularly manages teams of ecologists conducting reptile and amphibian mitigation and translocation schemes.

Stephen holds current Natural England Survey Licences for barn owl, smooth snake, sand lizard, bats and great crested newt, and has held equivalent survey licences in Wales and Scotland. Stephen is experienced in a wide range of bat survey techniques.

Prior to joining BSG Ecology Stephen worked as a Senior Ecologist at Thomson Ecology where he co-ordinated and managed large teams of surveyors on large scale translocation schemes and where he undertook the role of Ecological Clerk of Works at the London 2012 Olympic Park.
