Baker Shepherd Gillespie is one of the UK’s leading
ecological consultancies. The practice was established
in 1997 by the three partners: Andrew Baker, Peter Shepherd
and James Gillespie. With backgrounds in conservation,
research and commercial consultancy, the partners have
rapidly established a reputation for providing high
quality independent ecological consultancy. Baker Shepherd
Gillespie currently employs 43 staff, 35 of whom are
professional ecologists.
Our client base includes planners, lawyers, civil engineers, architects and developers in the public and private sectors, as well as local authorities, statutory nature conservation organisations and national government departments. Since 1997 we have successfully executed well over one thousand contracts throughout the UK.
As a science-based practice, we rely on the latest available research to provide the best advice to clients. Much of our work is design-based and we have developed a reputation for innovation and creativity, providing practical solutions to meet our clients’ needs.
Within the UK, ecological consultancy is a relatively
new profession, and all partners maintain an active
involvement in developing the profession and establishing
standards for the whole industry. All professional staff
are members of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental
Management (IEEM).
