Brian Armstrong


Brian has worked as a professional ecologist since 2003 and joined BSG Ecology’s Hathersage Office in April 2014.

Brian is experienced in a range of ecological survey techniques, data analysis and mapping. This includes extended phase 1 habitat survey, NVC botanical survey, as well as surveys for great crested newts, white-clawed crayfish, water vole, badger, reptiles and bats. He holds scientific survey licences for great crested newt and bats and is experienced in the preparation and implementation of development licences.

Brian’s project experience includes urban redevelopment and large-scale expansion, quarry proposals, renewable energy, listed buildings, and BREEAM. This has included conducting data searches, managing teams of surveyors, handling extensive data sets, interpreting and presenting data.

Brian is experienced in producing ecology chapters for Environmental Statements, Biodiversity Management Plans and providing advice and guidance to clients on Habitat Regulations Assessment. He is an experienced project manager and frequently works with planners, architects, engineers, landscape designers and wider project teams on development projects.

Prior to joining BSG Ecology, Brian worked for 10 years as a Local Government Ecologist both in Peterborough and Sheffield. This included delivery of ecological advice on planning and development control matters, protected species, Local Wildlife Sites and nature conservation policy.

Brian is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
