Guy has worked as a professional ecologist since 1998. Since joining BSG Ecology in 2004 he has provided specialist advice for a wide range of projects including major infrastructure and housing developments, urban regeneration, leisure parks, barn conversions, green roof design, nature reserve management and biodiversity action planning.
Guy’s role includes project management, Ecological Impact Assessment, ecological survey including protected species, devising mitigation and the preparation of biodiversity management plans. His role involves providing advice to multi-disciplinary project design teams, developers and other clients, and providing technical guidance to other colleagues within the practice.
Guy has expertise in providing ecological advice for onshore wind farm developments, particularly in relation to impacts on bats and birds. Guy has experience of preparing proofs of evidence for several wind farm public inquiries in respect of bats. He holds Natural England survey licences for great crested newts and bats. Guy is a qualified tree climber, regularly carries out aerial tree surveys for bat roosts and has a particular interest in veteran trees. Guy is interested in sustainable design, including the ecological benefits that can be achieved through the use of green roofs and sustainable drainage systems.
Previous roles include ecologist for British Waterways, where he was involved in canal restoration and regeneration, manager of Gloucestershire’s Biodiversity Project, and work with Natural England on the UK Biodiversity Action Plan. He has also spent time as a conservation officer in Bermuda and carried out research in partnership with the RSPB into pinewood regeneration.
