Kate has worked in ecological consultancy since 2014, and joined BSG as an Ecologist in March 2017. Prior to joining BSG she worked for a large multi-disciplined consultancy in the southwest, where she worked predominantly on nationally significant infrastructure projects and Highways schemes.
Kate has a broad range of ecological survey experience, notably bat and great crested newt, but also reptile, badger, otter, water vole, dormouse and bird surveys, as well as general surveys of ecological constraints. Kate holds licences to survey great crested newt in England and Wales, and has led and co-ordinated surveys for this species, as well as assisting in translocation programmes. She can carry out site appraisal, and has previously undertaken Clerk of Works duties in relation to nesting birds, badgers, reptiles and invasive species.
Kate has a particular interest in bats, and is working towards her bat licence. She has a wide range of bat survey experience, including inspections of structures and trees for bat potential and evidence, activity surveys, emergence/re-entry surveys, and installation of static detectors. She is experienced in the analysis and identification of bat calls, using BatSound, BatExplorer and Analook software. Kate is an active member of the Gloucestershire bat group, and has undertaken a number of bat box checks and hibernation surveys with the group.
