Darryl joined BSG Ecology in 2018, and is a qualified ecologist and arborist who has worked in commercial consultancy since 2010. He has a varied skill base and has worked on a broad range of projects throughout the UK for both private and public sector clients. These have included housing developments, utilities, renewable energy and quarry sites.
Darryl has an excellent understanding of the legislation and planning policy relating to the natural environment and has considerable experience applying it to support clients with their development proposals. He holds a Level 2 bat survey licence (England) and a Level 1 great crested newt licence and has prepared a number of European Protected Species Mitigation Licence applications for bats.
Darryl has considerable experience producing tree constraints assessments and arboricultural impact assessments for developers, tree condition and hazard assessments for Local Authorities and private homeowners, and tree management advice for developers and contractors. He is also an experienced ecological consultant and has undertaken numerous extended Phase 1 habitat surveys, bat surveys, amphibian and reptile surveys, badger, water vole, otter and red squirrel surveys, and ornithological assessments. He has also been involved in a number of high profile projects requiring the control of alien species.
Prior to becoming an ecological consultant Darryl undertook contract work as a climbing arborist, aerial access technician and wildlife conservation biologist in the Indian Ocean and African sub-continent.
