Kai Hayes

Kai joined BSG Ecology full-time in March 2022.

He has experience conducting a range of ecological surveys including emergence, re-entry, and transect surveys for bats, great crested newt surveys, reptile surveys, and has also assisted with badger, dormouse, and water vole surveys. Kai also has experience doing Phase 1 surveys and habitat suitability assessments, and has been responsible for managing several projects.

Kai has a degree and MSc in Biology from the University of Sheffield. His MSc thesis looked at population genetics and evolutionary rates in Great Tits and was published in the journalĀ Genome Biology and Evolution. Kai maintains a broad interest in ecology and environmental issues.

Outside of work Kai is a keen skier, hiker, and climber, and has spent several winter seasons working as a ski instructor all over the world.
