BSG Ecology wins CIEEM Best Ecological Consultancy and Large Scale Mitigation Awards 2020

BSG Ecology wins CIEEM Best Ecological Consultancy and Large Scale Mitigation Awards 2020

BSG Ecology is thrilled to announce wins in both the Medium Scale Consultancy and Large Scale Mitigation Project categories at the annual Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) awards ceremony last night.

This is the second time BSG has won in the Best Medium Consultancy category, following our win in the inaugural year of the award in 2018. The criteria on which the award is judged are: demonstrating how projects have delivered for nature and people’s connection with nature alongside delivering positive outcomes for business and the economy; sharing learning and good practice; investing in the career development of staff; and the promotion of ecology as a profession.

BSG Ecology, Park Holidays Ltd and Landscove Holidays Ltd also won the Large Scale Mitigation category for our work at the Landscove Holiday Park, Devon. Ecology was the key consenting issue for the redevelopment and expansion of this site, due to potential impacts on bats associated with the South Hams Special Area of Conservation. The outcome has vastly improved habitat quality for the bats in areas adjacent to the holiday park while also delivering a scheme that has brought significant tourism benefits to the local economy.

BSG Director Jim Gillespie said: “Winning these two awards reflects the dedication, technical expertise and track record of our whole team in finding development solutions that benefit biodiversity alongside helping secure planning consents for our clients. This achievement also reflects our continued commitment to training, and to helping shape the industry in which we work. It is something we can be very proud of.”

Matt Purdom of Park Holidays Ltd commented: “BSG Ecology helped guide us through the planning process for Landscove, ensuring meaningful and proportionate mitigation and enhancement measures were delivered through the project. The landscape and nature is a key reason people come to visit the holiday park and for the park to be able to contribute to become part of the network of resilience to the SAC is fantastic. We are proud to have supported the internationally important bat population, and to have done our small part to secure their future, and are delighted our efforts have been reflected through this prestigious award.”

BSG Ecology was also highly commended in the Best Innovation category for our collaborative work on acoustic deterrents to improve the effectiveness of bat mitigation for new rail projects.
